A liner arrives in Mahajanga
Last month, the cruise ship Serenissima left Egypt and is scheduled to arrive in Mahajanga on January 11 after its passage to Nosy Tanikely, Antsiranana. The passage of the liner on our island causes a great relief to the tourism sector which suffered from the negative consequences of the plague epidemic which lasted about three months. Indeed, nearly forty thousand tourists have canceled their trip to Madagascar while the sector anticipated the arrival of three hundred thousand tourists for 2017.
According to Toky Armel Ranjatonantenaina, director of the Office Régional du Tourisme de Boeny (ORTB), eighty passengers will disembark to visit the Ankarafantsika National Park and then return on the ship the same day to set sail for Morondava.
According to the director of ORTB, fifteen tour guides from Mahajanga, ten car rental companies, a big restaurant in Mahajanga which is accustomed to catering services in the air transport, twenty artisans and local guides are ready to welcome foreign tourists who will disembark from the liner.
The Office Régional du Tourisme de Nosy be also said that another liner is expected to Nosy Be this weekend but that hasn’t been confirmed yet.
In any case, the arrival of Serenissima is already enough to delight Malagasy tourist operators.
