The Beam Paulownia Development program fights against deforestation
During the recent World Environment Day that took place in the Itasy region, the Beam Paulownia Development program was outraged over the pace of deforestation in Madagascar. The program has therefore decided to react in order to limit the consequences for the environment and the economy of the country. Indeed, the timber industry is in great danger. Lalaina Razanatefy, General Manager of the Beam Paulownia Development program, explained that the program is popularizing the fast growing tree variety called « paulownia » to combat deforestation. The paulownia can already be harvested after five years and may well be used as timber.
The Beam Paulownia Development program has called for the collaboration of a laboratory to produce and supply « paulownia » seedlings to producers. The State will play the role of facilitator in the implementation of the program while Beam Paulownia Development will start promoting the sector and participate in the perfect implementation of the reforestation program and thus achieve concrete results. The program expects restoration of forests, preservation of the environment and increase in the income-generating activities of the peasants, and why not exporting timber.
